The Big Billionaire Bailout
This so-called “Big Beautiful Bill” is nothing more than a handout to billionaires—forcing working-class families and our most vulnerable neighbors to sacrifice so the ultra-wealthy can get even richer. It’s cruel, and it does nothing to help make America great.
I believe in fiscal responsibility and balancing a budget, but that should start with making sure the wealthiest pay their fair share—not by pulling the rug out from under seniors, veterans, and people living with disabilities.
I grew up in the Midwest and was taught that we take care of each other. We help one another—not pile on burdens. Unfortunately, that’s exactly what this bill does. I’ve heard many of our state’s Republican legislators decry unfunded mandates. Now, Washington is doing exactly that—handing our counties new rules and red tape without providing the funding to carry them out. Those increased costs will fall on local governments, and in the end, we’ll all pay through higher levies and rising property taxes.
I plan to spend the next year and a half listening to our neighbors—at kitchen tables, community events, and front porches. If I’m given the honor of serving our district, I’ll bring our stories and struggles into every room where decisions are made. Our rural communities need a champion—someone who will fight for us, not cheer for legislation that hurts our most vulnerable neighbors.
Tomorrow, we celebrate 249 years of our nation’s independence. It should be a day to reflect on the freedoms we enjoy in this country. But far too many of our neighbors are struggling to provide for their families, worried about groceries, rising healthcare costs, or how to care for aging parents—and that sure doesn’t feel like freedom. If you’re feeling despair about our future, I encourage you to take time this weekend with loved ones. Take a walk. Watch a sunset. Do something kind for a neighbor. Because when our communities come together, we can build something better—something that works for all of us.
And we will. Starting Monday.
