I’m Running to Represent District 24A — Let’s Get to Work
My Friends,
I hope this holiday season finds you in good health and full of joy! Today I am making an announcement that I never envisioned making. I am excited to announce my candidacy as a DFL candidate for Minnesota House District 24A. This was not a decision I made lightly, and after much consideration, I am thrilled to have the full support of my family behind me as we embark on this new journey over the next year.
As Minnesotans, we pride ourselves on a variety of things: our “Minnesota niceness”, our ability to withstand the cold and talk about weather at length (blizzard of ‘91 anyone?), our unwavering love for our often-disappointing professional sports teams, and most importantly, our never-ending desire to help our neighbors. We see examples of this in our communities all the time. We shovel out our neighbors’ driveways and donate our time and money to local organizations. We rally around families experiencing loss and celebrate each other’s big life moments. It is this spirit of taking care of each other that inspires me to run for office. Our state’s budget reflects what we value most. I believe that budget should be reflective of our communities and that desire to make sure everyone has what they need to be successful. We can build on the historic success of the last legislative session and continue to strive to make Minnesota’s economy one that works for everyone. This includes supporting families by working to fully fund our public schools, ensuring they have access to affordable housing options, and making sure everyone has access to quality healthcare and childcare they can afford.
I believe I can bring a lot to 24A as our representative. My family has lived in Byron for over 17 years and is familiar with many of the issues facing citizens of our district. I have spent over two decades working in multiple fields of scientific research, am skilled at learning new information and finding creative solutions to complex problems, and mastering how to critically assess information and decide when a solution is not working as hoped. Connecting with others through their unique stories and experiences should be any public servant's focus, and it's intrinsic in me from childhood. My time serving on the school board this past year has helped me to hear the heart of the concerns of those in our community and to empathize with their lived experience. I will combine these skills and bring them with me to represent our district in St. Paul, ensuring those in our rural communities have their voices heard.
We’ve got a long road ahead of us this next year, my friends. I can’t do this on my own. I would be honored if you would come along with me on this adventure representing our district. There are many ways you can be a part of this campaign: volunteering your time, reaching out and sharing the issues that are most important to you, sharing our message with your neighbors, or making a donation. I'm extremely excited about this next year and hope you are too. So, if you're ready, pull up a seat and let's get to work!
